Brett Fisher and Christina Conrad – Cells for Cells Heroes – July 2007

August 23, 2007 by jclements

This month, we honor two Cells for Cells Heroes: Brett Fisher and Christina Conrad. Both are interns at Kansas City based Burns & McDonnell. Together, Brett and Christina set a very bold goal of collecting 500 phones within 3 weeks. Because of their enthusiasm, they garnered the participation of Burns & McDonnell locations nationwide including Centennial, CO; Downers Grove, IL; San Francisco, Houston, St. Louis, San Diego, and Alpharetta, GA. Brett was even able to share the Cells for Cells story with a business connection at Kansas City based Roberts Dairy. . . Roberts Dairy donated cell phones, too!

In three short weeks, Brett and Christina collected a whopping 773 cell phones for Cells for Cells. They surpassed their collection goal by 155%. Wow! By doing so, Brett and Christina shattered the previous collection record of 122 cell phones held by UMB and the Polsinelli Law Offices.

We congratulate Brett and Christina for their initiative and determination. You both have made a difference!

August 1, 2007 by jclements

This month, we honor Jeff Pickerill as June’s Cells for Cells Hero. Jeff manages both T-Mobile kiosks in the Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas. Pictured with Jeff is Victoria Rodriquez and Jason Costigan.

After an initial “no” from T-Mobile corporate offices, Jeff sought and received special permission to collect phones for the Cells for Cells program. Jeff is now encouraging other T-Mobile locations to set up their kiosks as Cells for Cells drop-off points.

We honor Jeff for his outstanding initiative and valuable contribution to the Cells for Cells | Recycle for a Cure program.

Thank you, Jeff. You are making a difference!

By the way, if you need help with your T-Mobile account or if you need to upgrade to a MyFaves plan, just stop by and ask for Jeff, Victoria or Jason when you are at the Oak Park Mall. If you are near the Independence Center Mall, talk to Davon Stewart. Remember to take your old cell phone with you and drop it in the white Cells for Cells box.

Official Launch of the Cells for Cells – Recycle for a Cure Fundraiser

February 21, 2007 by jclements

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Mid-America Chapter and Clements Associates LLC, providers of the Telecom Efficiency Study announce the launch of

Cells for Cells – Recycle for a Cure.

Cells for Cells – Recycle for a Cure program reconditions, resells, and recycles used cell phones that have been donated by individuals and companies. This unique fundraiser will help find cures for blood cancers and will keep electronic waste out of our landfills. A portion of the money raised goes to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. If you know someone who has an immediate blood cancer need, please call the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Information Resource Center (IRC) at 800-955-4572.

  • The average American cell phone user has a total of 3 or more cell phones in their possession.
  • For the first time in 2006, cell phone shipments topped 1 billion.
  • In the U.S. approximately 130 million cell phones will be retired each year of which less than 2% are recycled.

————————————————————————————————————————–

  • Every five minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer
  • Approximately 118,310 new cases are expected this year.
  • An estimated 785,829 Americans are living with blood cancers.
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has committed $660,000.00 to support research in Missouri.
  • In 2006, the Mid-America Chapter gave $100,000.00 in Patient Aid to local families.

Question:

How can I help?

Answer:

  1. Donate your old phones that you have at home or at work
    1. call to schedule a pick up – OR –
    2. drop off your used phones at The Leukemia & Lymphoma’s office 6811 W. 63rd Street Cloverleaf Building 1 Suite 202 Shawnee Mission, KS 66202
  2. Sponsor a Cells for Cells Drive at your office
    1. it is so simple – schedule a Cells for Cells Drive at your location – usually just 5 or 10 days
    2. we provide a Cells for Cells donation box
    3. we provide a Cells for Cells email and flyer to let your fellow employees know to bring their old phones from home
    4. At the conclusion of your drive, we’ll collect the Cells for Cells donation boxes for you and let you know how your office/company performed
  3. Spread the word

Many recycling programs remove the recycling and fundraising dollars out of Kansas City. Won’t you consider keeping Kansas City’s recycling dollars in KC and supporting our local Mid-America Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I hope that you’ll agree that this program is worth your support.
