Recycling Used Cell Phones: Yes, Even If Your Dog Chewed On It

November 13, 2023 by jclements

Did you know that every single used cell phone, no matter the condition, can be recycled.

Yup, even this cell phone, that was chewed on by a very hungry dog,  can be recycled.

(On a side note:  I always laugh when I see a phone like this come in.  There is probably a really funny story behind it.

So, I looked for a link to a funny dog drool or dog slobber picture; but the search made my stomach queezy and now I can’t un-see those photos.)

Moving on…

Cell phones are the most value-dense electronics commodity on the planet.   Approximately half of all cell phones that Cells for Cells collects end up at Umicore in Belgium.  Umicore is the world’s largest recycler of precious metals from electronic scrap – including mobile phones.  Umicore “is one of the most efficient [recyclers] worldwide and is able to recycle 17 metals, of which seven are precious metals.”

Cells for Cells collects any cell phone, from any carrier, in any condition:

  • Old
  • Used
  • Broken
  • Water-damaged
  • Cracked Screens
  • Replacements
  • Flips
  • MiFi
  • WiFi
  • iPhones
  • Samsung
  • Motorola
  • Bag Phones
  • Any cell phone, even if your dog chewed on it

Join us. Help us. Recycle with us.

If you have old cell phones laying around and want to contribute to this meaningful cause, consider gathering at least 24 phones to make it worthwhile due to shipping costs, which Cells for Cells covers. Join hands with your friends, and together, you can make a positive impact. Learn more about how to donate your old cell phones at Cells for Cells – I WANT TO HELP.

How Can I Be Better At Recycling My Glass

October 19, 2023 by admin

Important Updates, Tips, and Notes From Ripple Glass

Cells for Cells: When someone asks themselves ‘How can I be better at recycling my GLASS’ what are 4 easy things anyone can do right now in 2023 to be better at recycling?

Ripple Glass: 1. Keep your plastic bags and plastic wrap out of your recycling bin. These items can only be recycled at the drop-off containers at your grocery stores, or you can put them in your trashcan.

2. Rinse or wipe out your recyclables, especially your plastics. The markets for plastic are very depressed right now, so the items need to be perfectly clean.

3. Purchase items that are easily recycled, and recycled locally. Glass and aluminum are great choices.

4. When you have an odd item, and you’re not sure if you can recycle it, check recyclespot.org for good local options! [Jason’s note: When your office needs to recycle old or broken cell phones request free shipping labels from Cells for Cells .

When Was The Last Data Breach from a Cell Phone?

July 3, 2019 by admin

According to The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, the last potential* data breach that involved a cell phone was September 29, 2017.

2017 ! ! !

Here are the details:

“What Happened?

On July 29, 2017, a partner’s pin protected cell phone was stolen from his person. Upon the robbery, the partner’s work account log-in information was changed and his email account was instructed to remotely delete from his phone immediately when connecting to the internet.

While there is currently no evidence of data viewing or exfiltration of client information, we wanted to notify you of the incident because the email account was accessible from the phone.

What Information Was Involved?

Potentially any emails and attachments exchanged with removed@removed. This information may have included your Social Security number.”Information Source: California Attorney General https://oag.ca.gov/ecrime/databreach/reports/sb24-101725

What does that mean to your recycling efforts?

It means that the potential for you or your company to lose data by recycling your smart phones, android phones, or iPhones is very small.

Cells for Cells has been recycling old and broken and blighted cell phones since 2007. We are good at what we do.

You are safe recycling with Cells for Cells.

Making Recycling Convenient With The Solecan

August 15, 2013 by jclements

The SolecanThe Solecan

When is comes to innovations in recycling, people talk a lot about making it easier.  If you make recycling easier then more and more people will do it.

Liz and Jeff Helfrich are making recycling easier with the Solecan.  The Solecan is a unique single can trash/recycling solution.  It has two separate sides–one for regular waste, one for recycling–that easily snap together to help you recycle.

You can see the Solecan in action in the video at the end of this interview.  Or, if you want to see it now, scroll down and click play.

1.  What are 4 things that anyone can do right now to be a better recycler?

Jeff:  Convenience. Convenience.  Convenience.  Convenience. People only recycle if it is convenient.  If you want to improve recycling rates at home or in the office, then make it more convenient to recycle. Many studies have shown that the number one thing you can to do be a better recycler now is to make recycling more convenient for yourself.

2.  You are the inventor of the Solecan.  What is a Solecan?

Jeff: Actually, I am co-inventor of the Solecan with my wife, Liz.  The Solecan is a dual compartment receptacle with trash on one side and recycling on the other.  It snaps apart to make emptying the separate compartments a breeze.  It will be made from 100% recycled plastic.
